Well the cruise ship season is well underway!Bay of Islands Beach

Welcome ashore to all of the passengers on the multitude of cruise ships this season.

The Bay of Islands has become one of the most popular cruise ship destinations in New Zealand.  It is expected to host over 60 ships in the 2018/19 season which runs from October to April.

The Bay of Islands is a “tender” port.  This means that the ships moor offshore and tender their passengers ashore.  Mostly this is to Waitangi Wharf where there is a continuous, free shuttle bus service which operates to take passengers into Paihia.  Paihia is where most water based activities take place from and it is where the i-site visitor centre is situated.  If you do not wish to take the bus then it is a pleasant 20 minute walk along the sea front to reach Paihia.

One of the most popular attractions on cruise ship days is the authentic Art and Crafts market which takes place on the Village Green in Paihia.  This is one of the most popular markets of its kind in Northland.

If you are visiting on a Cruise Ship and want a shore based tour then we can recommend our associate company Bay of Islands Shuttles and Tours. They offer many Bay of Islands onshore tours.  They are small groups and professionally guided.  They offer tours which include Kerikeri, Kawakawa, Kawitit Glow Worms Caves and Haruru Falls.  Visit this historic area by mini bus and experience the best the region has to offer.
