Ken Mullarkey
Founder
Twin Coast Cycle Trail Transport and Bike Hire is now operating as Mullarkey Bike and Shuttle. It is the brain child of well known Far North businessman Ken Mullarkey.
Owner, founder and driving force
Behind the highly successful Northland vehicle rental specialists, Far North Rentals. Ken is also the director and founder of Mullarkey Tours.
Ken is an avid cyclist and cycle trail rider. However, it was during an extended visit overseas in 2016 that Ken saw how Europeans had embraced a new concept that really had not yet begun in NZ – electric bikes.
He started slowly in September of 2016 with 4 electric bikes based in Paihia to cater for the tourist trade and visiting cruise ship passengers.
At this stage Pou Herenga Tai, the Twin Coast Cycle Trail, was not fully completed and could only be ridden is separate sections. However, that all changed in late summer of 2017 when the trail was fully opened from Opua in the Bay of Islands to Mangungu in the Hokianga.

Ken believed that his company could enhance the enjoyment and satisfaction of visitors
Riding the trail by hiring either e-bikes or conventional mountain bikes and by also providing flexible transport services all along the trail.
“I believe that the cycle trail is a wonderful opportunity to show visitors a unique part of Northland and to provide employment opportunities in far north rural areas that do not normally see a lot of tourists. If we can enhance this experience by providing high levels of service and customer satisfaction then people will keep coming back and everybody will benefit”.
